Where to Stay in Ubud

Ubud isn't a single street — it's a green sprawl of villages, ridges and rice terraces. Here's how the areas differ, and which of our private-pool villas sits where.

Central Ubud, Penestanan & Petulu

If it's your first time, stay close to the centre. Petulu and Penestanan put you a six-to-ten-minute scooter ride from Ubud Palace, the art market, the Monkey Forest and the cafés along Jalan Hanoman — close enough to head into town for dinner, far enough that the nights stay quiet. This is the easiest base for couples and first-timers who want to do Ubud on foot and by Grab.

Gianyar & the rice-field villages

Push a little further out into the Gianyar countryside and the rice fields take over. These are working banjar communities — temple gamelan, roosters at dawn, neighbours who wave — and the villas here trade a few minutes of drive time for real quiet and better value. A good fit for repeat visitors and anyone who came to Bali to switch off.

Tegalalang & the north

North of the centre, Tegalalang is the Ubud of the postcards: tiered rice terraces, jungle gorges and ridge walks. Mornings are cooler, the views are bigger, and you're well placed for the waterfalls and swing parks further north. It's a fifteen-to-twenty-minute drive into town — a trade most guests happily make for the scenery.
