The walk in is the first thing to know about Keira, and the thing we're most upfront about: there's no car access. You park at the road and walk roughly five minutes down a stone path through the rice paddies to reach the villa. Amelia's review captures the experience well: she arrived in pouring rain, host Sandrina carried most of the bags down the hill, and by the time she'd dried off and seen the pool at the edge of the forest she'd decided the walk was worth it. Nyoman or Sandrina meets you at the road, the welcome young-coconut drink waits on the table, and the trade-off you've made (convenience for absolute quiet) settles in within about ten minutes of arriving. At night you'll see fireflies in the garden, which several recent guests have written about; it's not a marketing line.

The single ensuite bedroom is a wood-frame pondok with a king bed, room-darkening shades, AC that one Hamza review specifically singled out as 'cool and working great,' a wardrobe with hangers, and the kind of layered silence that you only get when you're actually in a rice field. The bathroom is the part guests photograph: a deep bathtub set against the window onto the paddies, an outdoor shower with hot water, shampoo and conditioner, hair dryer and toiletries provided. The kitchen pavilion has cooking basics (kettle, blender, rice cooker, toaster, bread maker, fridge, pots and pans, dishes and silverware) enough for breakfast and tea, with most dinner orders coming in via delivery from cafes a short scooter ride away.

The 3.5×6 m private pool sits at the edge of the property where the paddies meet the forest. Open all hours, sun loungers around the deck, a small hot tub for cooler evenings, garden and valley views all around: at night with the forest behind it the pool feels remarkably private, almost cinematic. We can arrange a floating breakfast tray (banana pancakes, fruit, coffee, juice) if you'd like to make a morning of it; Sandrina sets it up.

The villa is in Kedewatan, the western edge of Ubud, about 2 km from the centre, so 5 minutes by scooter or Grab to Ubud Palace and the central market, 10 minutes to the Monkey Forest, 10 minutes to Campuhan Ridge Walk, and 15 minutes north to the Tegalalang Rice Terraces. It's the closest of our river-side villas to town while still feeling genuinely set apart. Honest about the quirks: that 5-minute walk to and from the road in and out is non-negotiable. Fine if you've packed sensibly, harder if you're hauling four oversized suitcases or have a mobility issue (let us know in advance and we'll arrange porter help). 24-hour staff are based at the family compound up the path, so help is a WhatsApp message away. Jungle insects, distant temple gamelan, the occasional rooster from neighbours up the hill: same Bali soundscape, same honest disclosure.
